Mobile towers set on fire; policeman hurt in arson

IMPHAL, Feb 15: The JAC formed against the abduction of Kh Boboi supervisor BCL Company (Aircel), today burnt down two Aircel towers at Kumbi this evening at around 2:15 pm.

In the first incident, JAC members including womenfolk allegedly burnt down a mobile tower of the Aircel, service provider located at Kumbi Laisendang Mamang Leikai and later put on fire another tower located along the Kumbi Ithai barrage road.

According to sources, police resort to tear gas and lathi charge to disperse the agitating mob. At the same time a policeman while trying to douse one of the towers set on fire got himself burnt.

In the meantime in displaying their anger, the JAC organized a mass rally starting from the Kumbi bazaar and demanded the release of Kh. Boboi, supervisor BCL Company (Aircel) safe and sound.

Meanwhile the 48 hours bandh imposed along the Tiddim road and the Moirang Kumbi by the JAC ended today without any report of untoward incidents.

And further it may be mentioned here that Kh. Boboy, 30, of Kumbi Bazar working as a supervisor of the BCL security private limited, New Delhi was reportedly kidnapped by KCP MC Taibanganba militant outfit on February 11, for a ransom of rupees 5 crore with the stern warning that if the concern authority does not pay attention to the demand within February 15, he will be executed similar to the another Aircel security person who was given capital punishment some days back.
