Imphal, Feb 9: Irked by the Manipur cabinet decision of November 3, 2010 and the subsequent order by the Governor of Manipur dated November 18, 2010 that consolidates the functioning of Autonomous District Councils in “Naga areas”, the United Naga Council (UNC) terms it as “a direct challenge to the Naga People Declaration”.
The Naga people of Manipur had expressed reservation and had refrained from partaking in the Autonomous District Council elections held in 2010.
Informing Newmai News Network today, the UNC said, “The Manipur District Councils (MDC) elections were declared null and void and under any circumstances it shall not be allowed to function/operate in the Naga areas”.
An order by the Governor of Manipur in November 18 last had assigned senior Manipur Civil Service (MCS) officers as executive directors of District Rural Development Agencies (DRDA) in the Autonomous District Councils of the five hill districts of Manipur and additional district magistrate or additional deputy commissioners shall also continue to be the project directors of the DRDAs concerned in the hill and valley districts.
The order also said that the chairmen of autonomous district councils of Senapati and Kangpokpi shall be co-chairmen for DRDA of Senapati district.
Over-ruling the orders of the State government by terming it as “a direct challenge to the Naga People Declaration”, the UNC has cautioned all concerned to “eschew the path of confrontation”.

The functioning of Manipur District Council (MDC) in all Naga inhabited areas of Manipur shall not be tolerated and those defying shall be treated as “anti-national” and at their own risk, asserted the apex Naga body, United Naga Council (UNC), today in pursuant to its demand of “Alternative Arrangement” from the government of India.
â€œAnything related to MDC functioning in the Naga areas of Manipur by the government of Manipur had its functionaries shall not be tolerated and those defying the peoples’ decision shall be treated as anti-national and at their own risk,” the UNC added.

The Naga people of Manipur had expressed reservation and had refrained from partaking in the Autonomous District Council elections held in 2010, further said. “The Manipur District Council (MDC) election was declared null and void and under any circumstances it shall not be allowed to function/operate in the Naga areas,”  the Naga body said.
