AFSPA is to make people secure: K Ranjit

IMPHAL, Mar 6: Complete withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA), 1958 will be a great threat to the law and order situation of the state, said works and transport minister K Ranjit today during the inauguration of Apunba Leikai Community Hall at Thingel Pukhri Achouba Mapal under Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency, Imphal.
The works minister further stated that extortion related crimes have increased drastically in Imphal Municipal area from where the AFSPA has been lifted in 2004. Every sensible government would never want its people to be in trouble and so the state government is compelled to impose the AFSPA for securing people’s life and property.
Dwelling on the development works of the SPF government, minister Ranjit stated that various remarkable works such as the construction of modernized Ema Markets, centralization of Manipur University, establishment of JNIMS, upgradation of RIMS etc. have been accomplished during the tenure of SPF government under the leadership of Okram Ibobi Singh.
Moreover, the implementation of Meitei Mayek and handing over of sacred Kangla to the people of Manipur was also made possible during the tenure of the present SPF government, he noted.
Ranjit further maintained that the state government will always stand against the perpetrators of the state and will ensure peace and development to all the people of the state.
He also said that the present problems of the state have been created by the past leaders of the state who had very short-sighted vision.
Minister Ranjit further appealed to the people to know the true meaning of democracy and exercise their franchise in the true spirit of democracy.
Delivering the presidential speech, health minister L Jayentakumar stated that the SPF government has taken so many developmental works in the state which no other government had done in the past.
The general secretary of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, Jotin Waikhom stated that the construction of Apunba Community Hall began with the assistance of Rs two lakhs forty thousand from the local development fund of MP Dr T Meinya.
He said that the community hall will accommodate all kinds of social functions and he will construct more of community halls in other areas of Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency.
