MACR peeved by state Govt’s failure to implement RTE

IMPHAL, Mar 9: The Manipur Alliance for Child Rights (MACR) has expressed strong discontentment over the failure of the state government to implement the Right to Education Act, 2010.
Speaking to media-persons today at Manipur Press Club, the coordinator of MACR, K Pradeepkumar stated that the Right to Education Act has been enacted to provide free and compulsory education to children up to the age of 14. However, the state government has not able to fulfill the aims and objectives of the Act.
He said that entrance examination for admission up to class VIII has been abolished under RTE but some reputed private schools as well as government model schools are still conducting the entrance examinations on contrary to the Right to Education Act.
The state government has even failed to check such violation of RTE thereby creating a perplexed situation in the society, Pradeepkumar averred.
The MACR further demanded the state government to set up the Right to Education Protection Authority for ensuring proper implementation of the Act.
A poster on “Right to Education Act” was also released today by the coordinator of MACR.
