IMPHAL, April 29: Contrary to the demands of the street vendors, the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today asserted that the decision taken by the state cabinet on April 25 regarding vacating of street vendors from around the three Ima markets of Khwairamband bazar cannot be revoked.

Terming the demands of the street vendors as illegitimate, the Chief Minister maintained that the vending space being provided by the government for street vendors at Lamphel is only a temporary means and they would be provided vending space once the complex of Tombisana High School, Assembly Road is converted into a shopping complex.

Till the conversion of Tombisana High School into a shopping complex, there is no means for the government to provide vending spaces for the street vendors other than the one provided at Lamphel, the Chief Minister said and further appealed the agitating street vendors to bear with the inconveniences caused by the cabinet decision.

While asserting that the state government has taken up the steps to vacate the street vendors in the general interest of the public and to regulate traffic along the congested streets in Imphal city, the Chief Minister said he has no hesitation in converting Mapal Kangjeibung or Shahid Minar as shopping complex if people wish so.

The Chief Minister also said that the state government is mooting plans to construct a five storey multiple parking system at the present site where the office of the state electricity is located at Keishampat Junction after shifting the office complex to a more suitable place.

He made this comment while delivering his speech at the one day special training programme on flagships schemes and other schemes of the SPF government organised by the Manipur Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee held at Congress Bhavan today.

Further speaking at the training programme, the Chief Minister maintained that the 15 points flagship programme of the UPA government which is being implemented by state government need to be addressed to the people judiciously so as to uplift the standard of living.

Today’s training programme was also attended by MPCC president Gaikhangam, ministers and MLA and workers of state unit of Mahila Congress.
