CM stresses role of police in maintaining peace and order

IMPHAL, April 20: Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh stated that role of civil police force is most important for maintenance of peace and order in the state and stressed the need to have conducive and understanding attitude towards the common man.

The Chief Minister stated this during passing out parade of the remaining 46th Batch of police constable held at Manipur Police Training College, Pangei Imphal today.

Speaking at the passsing out function, Ibobi asserted that the role of police is very different from the of central para military forces as police is made to suit local people and they operate within the society.

He said police modernization is required not only in terms of better infrastructures, equipments and arms but also in attitude and approached of police system.

It requires to be more humane and respectful of citizen`™s liberty and dignity he elaborated adding public should feel safe when they see police.

However the Chief Minister maintained that it is unfortunate that sometimes policemen are found indulging in dubious and unlawful activities like extortion. And police department should take exemplary actions against them to protect the faith and trust of common man in police.

Chief Minister O. Ibibo revealed that the state government has been taking several steps for improvement of infrastructure of police stations in the state under police modernistion programme. Modern equipments, transport-means and arms are being provided to state police.

Non-functional police stations are being revived in far flung areas of the state apart from strengthening of police force by recent recruitments. Moreover to assist the police force, the concept of VDF has been implemented, he said.

Ibobi in his speech also lauded and praised the civil police for its hard work and dedication in the very challenging task of maintaining law and order in the state.

Meanwhile 118 remaining trainees of 46th batch who successfully completed the training course participated in the passing out parade today.

The DGP Manipur, Deputy Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Ministers, MLAs and senior police officers attended the function.
