DM College students demands removal of principal for illegal fees collection

IMPHAL, April 9: Students of DM college of Science today staged a sit in protest inside the campus demanding the resignation of the principal of the college for allegedly collecting fees from the students beyond the provision.

Owing to the protest all classes remained defunct for the day.

Talking to media persons in this regard, the general secretary of the students`™ union, Haobijam Punachandra, DM Science, said that there are six semester each in every year in science (bachelor degree) technically fees are being collected from the students for semester number 1, 3 and 5 while the rest semester that is 2, 4 and 6 are free of cost.

However very recently, the students were taken by surprise for the principal of the college, Dr. P. Ranabir Singh, who notified in an official notification that fees will be collected for all the semester, disclosed Haobijam Punachandra.

He said that the union approached the registrar of MU, exam controller MU and additional director Education (U), and enquired whether there was any special provision for the sudden imposition of the fees on the semester which earlier were free of cost.

The students`™ body was informed that there was no such system of fees collection in the provision, he said.

The secretary of the students`™ body further claimed that fees were collected from over hundred of studfent illegally. He demand the principal concerned to refund the fees to students from whom the fees was collected.

In the meantime the secretary further warned that the administration block would be closed down indefinitely if the principal is not removed from the college by the higher authority in the earliest time.
