IMPHAL, June 4: Police today arrested a man who allegedly confessed to killing his wife and later manipulating the incident to look like a suicide case.

The accused is identified as one Moirangthem Ibomcha s/o Chaoba of Yaingangpokpi Awang Leikai at present staying at Seijang Mayai Leikai, at the maternal home of the victim woman. The victim has been identified as Moirangthem Rajeshwari, 33, who was staying at her maternal house alongwith her accused husband some four five years back.

While interacting with mediapersons in regards to the incident, the Officer in Charge of the Lamlai Police K Dhanajoy, maintained that the accused Ibomcha, who was arrested this afternoon and is presently in police custody, has already confessed to have killed his wife and subsequent manipulation of the caseto make it look like a suicide.

The man was arrested this afternoon from Seijang Mayai Leikai following a complaint lodge by the victim’s brother, Samandram Milan, who was not convinced with the explanation provided by his brother in law, who told him that his sister had committed suicide by hanging herself.

The accused who was also present at the conference further confessed to have committed the crime.

He also revealed that the failure of his wife to inform him on the status of her HIV/AIDS status led him to the gruesome act. He further stated that both his wife and himself have been married before they met.

He also informed that the couple has two children.

He further confessed that he strangulated his wife after tying up both her legs during the night of June 2 at around 11 pm and informed his in laws who were staying inside the same courtyard in the morning of June 3 that he found Rajeshwari hanging and that he had taken her dead body down.

Meanwhile on being informed by his brother in law, Milan younger brother of the victim entered the kitchen of the couple and found the dead body of his sister lying on the ground, however unsatisfied with the explanation provided by his brother in law, he reported the incident to the Lamlai Police station, after which the concerned police interrogated Ibomcha.

Meanwhile it may be added that the incident had come amidst hue and cry from women groups in the wake of increasing number of suspicious suicidal case in the state, demanding a speedy enquiry and to deliver justice in such cases. Many women groups had also recently staged protest demonstration in this connection and had termed the state police as incompetent while conducting an investigation.
