CM takes UNC issue to Delhi as state in no position to meet most demands

IMPHAL, June 23: Even after the state government’s decision to send its representatives to the United Naga Council tripartite talk; trouble seems to be looming large upon the already bad relation between the state government and the UNC as the state seems to be not in a position to fulfill the demands of the UNC.

According to a reliable source, a recent state cabinet after a brief discussion on the charter of demands submitted by the Naga apex body in the form of a memorandum has decided that the state government is not in a position to fulfill most of the demands.

The source also mentioned that the same memorandum is supposed to be the main agenda of the UNC at the tripartite talk which is scheduled to be held on June 30.

Subjected to the condition and with mounting pressure from various civil bodies of the state, the state Chief Minister has left Imphal for Delhi this afternoon carrying the UNC submitted memorandum to discussed it with both the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and the union home minister P Chidambaram, added the source.

However the official and exact demands of the UNC were not revealed by this source, as the state government is treating it as a confidential issue.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister in his meeting with the central leaders will table both the UNC charter of demands and the recent state cabinet decision on the issue and request the centre to provide initiatives to bring an amicable solution to the issue so as to ease the arising difficulty of the state government on the issue.
