IMPHAL June 22: Observing the World Music Day in culmination with his 50th birthday, renowned folk singer Rewben Mashangva hit the stage at Hotel Imphal yesterday, serenading his popular folk numbers.

The crowd was further enthralled by renditions from popular numbers of Bob Marley, Pink Floyd by Haraba, front man of FRINGE a rock band. Devadutta of Shallow River also gave a much needed pitcher of blues to the music thirsty crowd.

Yumnam Sammi, a state lass with comparisons to Taylor Swift further put paid to the musical event and the gathered crowd swayed and danced to her intoxicating tunes.

The evening also witnessed the screening of prize winning documentary film directed by Oinam Doren which is based on the folk songs of Rewben Mashangva, the singer himself was the producer of the documentary.

Manager of the Oriental Pumkin, Rk James in connection with the event said that the evening is a prelude to the observance of the Golden year of Rewben (his 50th birthday).

“Come October this year, we are organizing an event titled ‘Winning Peace Together’, we hope that through music which encompasses all barriers, the different communities of the state will further come together in peace and brotherhood, we want everyone to cooperate with this gala event”, the veteran event manager said.
