IMPHAL, July 21: Progress assistant of the directorate of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Th Biswajit Singh of Thongju, has been put under suspension as disciplinary proceeding is being contemplated, following a report furnished by the state vigilance commission recently indicting him of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The official order of his suspension was issued by principal secretary (RD & PR), Dr J Suresh Babu on July 20 in exercise of the power conferred by clause (a) sub-rule of 10 of CCS, CCA Rules, 1945.

It has further been ordered that during his suspension period, Th Biswajit Singh shall not leave Imphal without obtaining prior permission from the state authorities.

It may be mentioned here that Th Biswajit Singh’ popularity in Thongju Assembly constituency had been rising apparently due to his direct involvement in social activities and assistance for development in the constituency for the last four years, reportedly with the ambition of contesting at the upcoming general elections from the constituency where Bijoy Koijam is the sitting MLA.

On the other hand, it has been learnt from the reliable sources that a team of the state vigilance department had conducted raid inside the residence of Th Biswajit Singh at Thongju a few days back after registering a case for possessing disproportionate assets.
