Lokpal Bill a must to curb corruption: Nurul Hooda

IMPHAL, July 6: The central committee member of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and ex-MP Nurul Hooda has expressed the need to pass the Jan Lokpal Bill in order to curb the rampant corruption in the country.

The statement was made during a protest cum campaign meeting jointly organized by CPI, CPI (M), forward block and RSP at Keishampat Lairembi hall, Imphal.

Nurul Hooda, further stated that the Lokpal Bill has been unable to be passed in the Parliament for the last 65 years and as a result the country has topped in scams and other corrupt practices. The Left Front will render all support to pass the Jan Lokpal Bill in the coming Parliamentary session, he noted.

He denounced the policies of the Congress government as being biased to the cause of common people failing to uplift the socio-economic conditions of the people.

The state secretary of CPI, L Sotinkumar said that the Lokpal Bill must be passed to ensure free and accountable government otherwise the people will suffer a lot in the long run.

He also announced that a week-long nationwide campaign would be launched from July 15 to 21 to urge the government to save democracy and stop atrocities on left workers in West Bengal, effective Lokpal legislation, take action against corruption and black money and control prices of essential commodities.

Sarat Salam, state secretary of CPI and other leaders of CPI (M), Forward Block and RSP were present during the meeting.
