IMPHAL, July 29: The Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA) will be observing August 20 as Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas (Renewable Energy Day) in connection with the birth day of the then Prime Minister of India, late Rajiv Gandhi.
According to a release of the MANIREDA, that the day has been observed every year with a view to paying tribute to late Rajiv Gandhi’s vision of taking the country into the 21st Century through application of modern technology under the sponsorship of the ministry of New and Renewable energy, government of India.
It is also mentioned that, MANIREDA which is a nodal agency of the central ministry is going to organized state level function at Iboyaima Sanglen, Konung Lampak, Imphal on August 20 next with an objective to create mass awareness about the use of new and renewable energy and its various applications and its relevance to the present day existence of resources.
It further mentioned that, as a part of the celebration, gift/ prizes in the form of solar home lighting system Model-II would be presented to meritorious students who passed HSLC examination, 2010 and 2011 on the basis of highest marks scored (aggregate)- 1 to 25 position holders in each year, 2010 & 2011 both under Manipur Board and CBSE. Altogether 100 students would be honoured for their achievement and also encorurage them to achieve more in future and presented with a solar home lighting system model-II constiting of two luminaries of 8W each, 37 W SPV Module/panel and battery of12V, 40AH etc costing around Rs.14,000 the release added.
