AMSU seeks clarification from state police dept

IMPHAL, Sept 21: All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) has sought clarification from state police department on the persons who back the traders in the state as reportedly mentioned by one mid-rank police officer yesterday.

A release of AMSU stated that the traders are hoarding essential commodities in the wake of economic blockades imposed by Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) and United Naga Council (UNC) on the National Highways.

The volunteers have been conducting stern drives against hoarding and black-marketing.

In one such drive at Khwairamband Bazar yesterday, a police officer reportedly asked the AMSU volunteers whether they know the persons who back the traders or not.

The traders are selling the essential commodities in whatever prices they like.

Despite extreme sufferings faced by the people, the state government has failed to take up concrete measures to redress the grievances. The government cannot even safeguard the National Highways and resolve the issues pertaining to the demand and counter-demand for Sadar Hills district, the release stated.
