Government has assured of fullproof security and highway development say transporters

IMPHAL, Sept 18: Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today provided assurance to transporters of adequate security arrangement along the national highways besides developing both national highways during a meeting with representatives of various transporters’ bodies held this afternoon at his official bungalow.

The meet was attended by representatives of All Manipur Driver Welfare Association, All Manipur petroleum Tanker Drivers Union, Imphal Silchar Road Transport Society, National Highway 53 (37) Trucks Owners Association and All Manipur Inter State Bus Association alongwith works minister K Ranjit and PDA chairman Dr Loken.

Talking to mediapersons after the meting Bhupenchandra Gosh, president of the petroleum tanker body, stated that the Chief Minister has assured to fulfill most of the demand of the transporters which was earlier submitted to the Chief Minister on September 13 through a charter of demands.

Further elaborating on the development, Gosh informed that the Chief Minister has assured to immediately make necessary security arrangement to ensure the safety of the transporters and take up development works.

He asserted that the matter of providing financial assistance in the form of compensation and ex-gratia will be discussed in a cabinet meeting. The transporters are likely to meet the DGP, officials of CAF&PD and other relevant department tomorrow, further maintained Gosh.    

The transporters had earlier demanded provision of adequate and effective security arrangement by way of round the clock ROP of state or central forces, ambulance, recovery vans along both the national highways besides developing the highways to ensure their safety.

The transporter also demanded to provide timely compensation for those vehicles damaged during the agitation of the Sadar Hills District Demand Committee and ex-gratia for the deceased drivers and compensation for those injured.

Further elaborating on the development, Gosh informed that the Chief Minister has assured to immediately make necessary security arrangement to ensure the safety of the transporters and take up development works.
