Congress wins both remaining ADC elections

IMPHAL, October 31: The Congress has managed to win both the pending elections to the ADC constituencies which were conducted on October 24. The counting to the elections was started from 8am this morning at the DC Office complex, Lamphelpat and the results were declared at around 10:30am.

The pending elections were held in Chingai Autonomous District Council constituency in Ukhrul district and Phaibung Khullen ADC constituency in Senapati district.

Meanwhile, with the successful conduct of both the pending elections to the two constituencies, the state government will be able to successfully implement the decentralization of powers to the local bodies, through the elected representatives of the Autonomous District Councils in the hill districts.

Wilson Satsang of Chingai, Ukhrul and Saloni of Phaibung Khullen of Senapati, both of Congress party were announced elected.

Wilson defeated his nearest rival by 241 votes. While he received 1081 votes to his name, his rival secured 839 votes out of the total 3963 votes in the constituency. It may be mentioned that only 1912 votes were declared valid during the election.

Meanwhile, in Senapati district, Saloni received 1579 votes while his rival secured 1266 votes out of the total valid votes of 2805 from the constituency.

It may be mentioned that, the state government, with an objective to restore the local self governance in the six ADCs of the state which have remain paralysed since the last more than two decades, had conducted elections to the ADCs on May 26 and June 2 in two phases this year.

Unfortunately, due to the boycott from various Naga bodies under the spearhead of UNC, ten constituencies of the ADCs lying under the Naga majority areas of Senapati and Ukhrul districts had to be rescheduled.
