UCM, NPO absent from hearing of district boundary committee

IMPHAL, October 7: The 4th hearing of the Committee on Re-organisation of the Administrative and Police district boundary was held today at the office chamber of chief secretary DS. Poonia, who is also the chairman of the committee.

Official sources informed that the committee invited five organizations to participate in the hearing, however, out of the five only three were present in today’s hearing which included Tongjei Maril District Demand Committee (TMDDC), Saikul Area Naga People Organisation (SANPO) and COPTAM where they gave their suggestions and opinions before the committee.

The Naga Peoples Organization and United Committee Manipur failed to turn up at the hearing.

Talking to media persons after the meet, president TMDDC Abon Kamei, said that the Tongjei Maril falls at the border area of Churachandpur, Bishnupur and Tamenglong area and has been lying undeveloped and unattended for many years and as such the people has demanded to upgrade Tongjei Maril area to a full fledged district.

Menawhile, information secretary SANPO AS Leishipem, urged not to disintegrate Senapati district and not to include Nagas land in forming Sadar Hills district.

He further disclosed that SANPO questioned the committee on the government’s stand regarding the previously signed MoUs between the Nagas and previous state governments.
