IMPHAL, Oct 16: Tension between the supporters of commerce and industries minister Yumkham Irabot and upcoming candidate of Wangkhei assembly constituency Okram Henry is one the rise with the intensification of electioneering campaign for both the candidates.

The supporters of O Henry today staged a sit-in-protest at Mantripukhri Community Hall against the conduct of minister Irabot’s son who had allegedly fired upon the people in a scuffle few days back. They strongly condemned both the minister and his son for their irresponsible act towards the people.

On the other hand, the supporters of Y Irabot tried to carry out a mass rally from Mantripukhri Bengali Colony up to his residence at Khurai Ahonggei against the highhandedness of Henry. They stated that Henry has been propagating mobocracy in Wangkhei taking the advantage of being Chief Minister’s kin.

However, the police averted both the sit-in-protest and rally in view of the imposition of CrPC 144 in Mantripukhri area. Several tear gas shells and mock bombs were fired to disperse the supporters of both the candidates.

Some people were reported to be injured during the police action.
