State departments all set with demands to meet Union minister

IMPHAL, November 1: The Union minister for home affairs, P Chidambaram will arrive at the Imphal airport from New Delhi by a special BSF Embraer aircraft at 9:40am according to an official source.

He will then be airlifted to Senapati district head quarter by an MI 17 helocopter, the source said.

The Union minister will inaugurate the Senapati mini secretariat building and a 50 bedded district hospital at 10:05am, from there he will be further airlifted to Jessami in Ukhrul district where he inaugurate of SDO and SDPO office complexes and 33/11 KVA power sub station and a public health centre building. He will further address a public meeting at the sub-division.

He will then be airlifted to Imphal from Jessami and after touching down at the Kangla helipad, he will directly head to the Raj Bhawan.

Later in the day at 3pm, the Union minister will chair a review meeting of the Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal railway line and NH-53/37 and storage facilities for food grains and petroleum products.

The next day, he will inaugurate two 33/11 KV sub-stations at Tamei and Tousem sub divisions of Tamenglong district in the morning.

He will further inaugurate Tamenglong mini secretariat complex and the newly constructed Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya building at Tamenglong hq.

He will further address another public meeting at Tamenglong public ground at 11:45am.

He will later reach Imphal the same day at 3pm and leave for Guwahati from the Imphal airport at 3:25pm.

A separate helicopter will then be used to airlift the Chief Minister and other VVIPS during the visit of the Union home minister, the source added.

Meanwhile the  department of consumer affairs & food and public distribution and the transport department today convened their respective preparatory meetings regarding the November 2 high profile visit of the Union home minister P Chidambaram to the state.

During their separate meetings, both state departments deliberated on their respective departmental reports to be tabled before the Union minister during the review meeting which will be convened on November 2.

According to a source, the state chief secretary chaired the preparatory meeting of the transport department which was also attended by 13 officials of the North East Frontier Railway and other heads of the state transport department.

The meeting deliberated mainly on the Jiribam-Imphal-Tupul railway line and the developmental progress of the National Highway 37.

The source further in formed that after a deliberate discussion on the issues confronting the state in the present context, the meeting had decided to seek attention from the Union minister on issues regarding the law and order situation along the national highways and the Jiribam-Imphal-Tupul railway line.

Meanwhile, the meeting of the consumer affairs & food and public distribution department deliberated on the issue of scarcity of essential commodities in the state including petroleum products, and the lack of storage units of essential commodities during any disturbances along the two national highways 37 and 53 which act as the main lifeline of the state.

The meeting was convened under the commissioner CAF & PD and was attended by officials of the department including the director this morning at the secretariat office of the department.

According to a reliable source, during the meeting, the department has decided to put before the visiting Union minister a request for additional funds for development of adequate storage units of essential commodities and petroleum products in the state.
