IMPHAL, December 16: The father and son duo who were abducted by unidentified persons who identified themselves as Kesho Meitei of KCP (MTF) from the premises of Irilbung Water Supply Scheme on the night of December 7 were found shot dead at Lemba Khul Keitanlok under Yairipok police station this early morning.
The victims identified as Soram Ibomcha, 56, and Soram Yaipu alias Geetchandra, 18, of Irilbung Kalika were found with bullet injuries this morning after locals of Lemba Khul informed police about two dead bodies lying in their area.
The two were abducted by militants on December 7 at around 9:30 pm from the premises of Irilbung Water Supply Scheme in connection with some monetary demand made to the officials of PHED.
The dead bodies were found by some villagers of Lemba Khul early this morning and was later identified as that of the father and son by the police and locals of Irilbung.
Both Ibomcha and Yaipu sustained one bullet injury each on their heads. They were found blindfolded with both hands tied behind their back lying on a blanket.
One empty case and one projectile of 9mm bullet were also found from the spot.
The dead bodies were retrieved by Yairipok Police and deposited at JNIMS mortuary for post-mortem.
On hearing the news of the death of father and son, irate locals of Bamon Kampu and Irilbung blocked Imphal-Yairipok decrying the brutal murder. The agitators also set ablaze some portion of the water-supply scheme also.
Six persons were also injured during police action while trying to disperse the mob.
Meanwhile, a joint action committee has been formed against the murder of father and son after convening a public meeting at Irilbung.
The JAC demanded the state government to take action against the Chief Engineer of PHED and police officers for failing to rescue the abducted chowkidar timely.
The JAC also demanded the government to withdraw Irilbung Water Supply Scheme and take punitive action against the culprits.
The Public Health Engineering Department Workers and Employees Organizaion, Manipur and All Manipur Engineering Departments Unions’ Council have strongly condemned the brutal murder of Soram Ibomcha and his son by armed militants today.
The employees’ associations further demanded the authorities concerned to find out the culprits as soon as possible and give necessary compensations to the aggrieved families.
Meanwhile, employees of Porompat PHED has decided to stop supply of water in the state immediately untill .
