BJP raises Thoubal incident at Rajya Sabha, demands PR for free and fair poll in state

IMHAL, December 12: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has today raised the issue of attacking its leaders by suspected Congress supporters at the political convention at Thoubal yesterday during the zero hour of Rajya Sabha.

Conveying this to mediapersons, BJP state president, Sh Shantikumar stated that BJP national spokesperson Prakash Javedkar along with deputy opposition leader SS Aluwahlia raised the issue of attack on BJP leaders at Thoubal during the zero hour of the ongoing session of Rajya Sabha today.

The BJP leaders urged the House to promulgate President’s Rule in view of conducting free and fair poll in the state, he stated.

The MPs further demanded a CBI probe into the incident saying that Dr Najma Heptulla could have been injured if her security personnel did not retaliate at the right moment, Shantikumar told mediapersons.

National BJP leaders also intimated Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh about the incident of attacking BJP leaders during a political convention held at Thoubal which is under the assembly constituency of Chief Minister of Manipur, Okram Ibobi Singh.

State president Shantikumar further stated the party has lodged a complaint to the police on yesterday’s incident, but so far no action has been taken up.

The party would also send a complaint letter to the Election Commission of India and State Election department in this regard, he noted.

The Congress Party has tarnished the meaning of ‘secular’ in the state. They should apologize to the BJP for such undemocratic act, vice-president Tiken demanded.
