ECI affects DGP transfer in response to political parties

IMPHAL, January 5: Following a direct instruction from the ECI in response to concerns shown by political parties regarding the state government’s influence over the state DGP, the state government today issued an order transferring the state Director General of Police Y Joykumar IPS

The IPS officer has been replaced by addl DGP (int) Ratnakar Baral as the state police chief.

The state government today issued an order under the direct supervision of the ECI in effect of the transfer and posting of the former DGP today.

According to the official order, Y Joykumar, IPS has been transferred as managing director, Manipur Police Housing Corporation, while Ratnakar Baral will replace him as the new DGP, Manipur.

The order has also put in effect the transfer of T Pachuau, IPS MD, MPHC and IGP (adm) as IGP administration.

The order has further instructed the new DGP to take charge of his office immediately.

The ECI had directed the state government regarding the transfer of Y Joykumar, following charges from various political parties that the ruling party in the state has influence over the state DGP, and demand for his immediate transfer to enable free and fair conduct of the ensuing election.
