IMPHAL, May 12: A 16 year old was shot at last night around 7:30pm at Keirao Mayai Leikai under Irilbung PS, the bullet however failed to hit the girl.
Family members have in the meantime claimed that the girl was kidnapped and sexually assaulted last year and the attack could be the handiwork of the same assailants.
The incident happened while the girl was coming out of her back door to fetch water for cooking. The projectile of the bullet was found on the wall.
The girl identified as Salina alias Memi, 16 daughter of Jahur Ali Keirao Mayai Leikai had fainted following the firing incident, family members informed.
Speaking to media persons at her home, father of the girl said that on July 15, 2011 unidentified persons had kidnapped Salina and release her the next day after sexually assaulting her.
He continued that the locals had also formed a JAC in this regard.
She was treated last year at Hyderabad for trauma after the kidnapping and sexual assault incident, he further continued. The girl was first admitted at the Psychiatric ward RIMS before taking her to Hyderabad.
Her brother Sahid Ali said today’s firing must be the handiwork of her previous kidnappers.
He has further appealed to the police to find the miscreants and punished them according to the law.
