IMPHAL, May 26: A powerful IED (RDX) weighing about 2 kg along with a timer was reportedly planted at a Stone Crusher mill at Nillakuthi under Heingang Police Station this early morning, police sources said.

The Stone Crusher mill is owned by one Ngangom Yumjao alias Premjit, 55, son of (L) Ng Ibobi, living near the factory.

Police said the RDX attached to a wall clock was found around 5:30 am and it was retrieved by a police bomb expert team at 8:45 and later defused it at an open field.

No militant group has demanded money from him, but he has been asked to give Rs 5 lakh to the family of a girl whom his son eloped recently, police quoted Yumjao as saying.

Meanwhile, the militant outfit Maoist Communist Party, Manipur (MCP) today claimed responsibility for the timer bomb which was planted at a brick field owned by one Ngangom Premjit at Nillakuthi under Heingang Police Station.

The bomb was planted as Premjit refused to heed to the MCP’s call to admit his anti-party activities which had caused sufferings to the outfit a few months ago, the outfit said in a statement signed by its comrade Nonglen Meitei, secretary, publicity and propaganda.

The impact of the bomb would have caused widespread damage if the police did not remove it in time, MCP said, adding that the bomb plant was delayed because the outfit regards its principle of non-violence to the working class.

Maintaining that it has never done anything against the wishes of the people, MCP vowed it will never forget those who directly challenge it, warning the people to keep vigil when the outfit strikes against reactionaries.
