Tribal student bodies meeting

IMPHAL, May 27: A joint meeting of the tribal student bodies was convened by the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Students’ Union (IGNTSU) today against the move of the university authority to recruit some posts against the MOU, which was signed between the students and the VC of IGNTU on October 24, 2011.

According to a release of the student body said that the university authority to go ahead with the recruitment drive itself is fully anti-tribal, for the fact that all the top post are unreserved with an exception of one single seat for the post of a library attendant (grade IV post) is a clear case of mockery of the tribal.

The today’s meeting had resolved to, stick to the “MOU” dated October 24, 2011, signed between the students and the vice chancellor representing the university authority; to stick the support of all the tribal students’ organizations to stop the present recruitment drive; to declare the present recruitment (May 27, 2012) as null and void; and to seek wider consultation with all the tribal student organizations and district based tribal organizations to evolve a strategy for the further cause of actions.

The meeting also urges the GOM to take up necessary actions and to settle the present issue immediately and bear full responsibility.

The meeting was attended by representatives of Thadou Students’ Association, Makhen Students’ Union, Zeliangrong Students’ Federation, All College Tribal Student Organization Manipur and All India Tribal Student Association Manipur.
