IMPHAL, June 13: A 70-year-old woman vegetable seller was killed when a Tata Magic van hit her near the public toilet at Ima Keithel Temporary Market under City Police around 5 am Wednesday.
The victim is identified as Ahongsangbam Heiyai, wife of A Ibohal, a resident of Wangoi Wahengbam Leikai, Imphal West. She died on the spot.
The City Police has registered a case in connection with the incident after which the family has claimed the body that had post mortem examination at RIMS mortuary.
Meanwhile, in a separate road accident, a motorcycle rider was mowed down by a speeding truck at Kamangkha Bazaar under Jiribam Police Station this morning.
The victim, Phanjoubam Iboton, son of late Ph Nabakeshwor of Kamangkha, was hit by the van near his house around 10 am. He died on the spot instantly.
Enraged by the incident, local residents tried to torch the van but police rushed to the scene and managed to control the situation.
