BJP not idle in Richard case

IMPHAL, June 3: The BJP, state unit today conveyed a press briefing clarifying on the recent build-up of hostility between the party and the some state student bodies and the MPP.

Several state student bodies had warned of a blanket ban on the national political party in case the BJP ruled Karnataka government fail to positively entertain the student team which will be leaving for Karnataka soon regarding the Loitam Richard case.

The MPP has in the meantime alleged that the BJP is trying to disintegrate smaller political parties in the state and hoping to dissolve the parties under its fold.

Briefing media persons today at the party’s HQs at Nityaipat chuthek BJP President i/c Salam Ibohal said, the student bodies have failed to understand the BJP on the Loitam Richard case and the blanket ban warning on the party is unfortunate.

While appreciating the student bodies in their quest for justice, he said the state BJP is ever ready to help the student bodies in the case.

The BJP leader said NE Sampark Cell representatives have already talked with the concerned Karnataka government on the case and has been pushing the government to expedite the case.

Rajya Sabha MP and a leader of the BJP Arun Jaitley had already placed a calling attention motion on the case in the Parliament. He had also demanded the case to be handed over to the CBI.

The state unit president of the party Shantikumar has been stationing himself in the concern state since May 21.

He has already met with the Karnataka CM and the HM and briefed them on the present turmoil in Manipur on the case.

The Karnataka CM has expressed his commitment to send Richard’s post mortem report to AIIMS if the people have any doubt over the report. 

The Karnataka CM had also assured a transparent investigation in the case, he added.

The state unit president is presently awaiting the results of the case in Karnataka, he said.

Meanwhile coming to the allegations leveled against the party by former Opposition leader O Joy of MPP he said, the allegations are baseless and unfounded.

The BJP has no such motives as to draw members of the NCP and MPP into its fold at the present.

Lamenting the former Opposition leader’s allegation, he claimed that even though BJP is a national party, it has been working together with the smaller regional parties in the state.

The party had also joined hands with the smaller parties during the recent state election, he said.

He further expressed his disbelieve that such a leader as O joy would make such baseless allegation, without checking its credentials beforehand.
