Speaker assures better media facilities in Assembly from next session

IMPHAL, June 25: With the 2nd Session of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly commencing from June 27, the state Assembly Speaker Th Lokeshwor Singh today inspected the media gallery of the recently inaugurated Assembly hall along with media persons this evening.

The inspection tour was conducted following a complaint from the All Manipur Working Journalists Union this early morning regarding the low visibility of the proceeding of the Assembly from the media gallery.

The AMWJU team had also complained of the sound quality of the speakers attached at the media gallery.

Briefing media persons at the end of the tour, the Speaker urged the media persons to bear the inconveniences for the coming session which is just two days away.

He said the government will certainly improve the audio quality in the media gallery by next session for which the needed products have already arrived.

“Since the complex is still under construction, it is controlled by the government departments as of now and not fully handed over to the Assembly secretariat”.

He assured all inconveniences faced by the media persons will be looked into while the construction is still going on and it will be tackled at the earliest.

He said, “A recent security arrangement meeting for the ensuing session of the Assembly which was also attended by the Home Minister had decided that none other than the MLA himself and his PSO and driver will be allowed entry into the complex”.

The MLA’s cannot bring any other persons into the complex during the entire session, he said.

Meanwhile, a reliable source has informed that the state Assembly will conduct the discussion and voting on demands for Grants, 2012-13 for state Legislatures, council of Ministers, Secretariat, Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development, Election, General Economics Services and Planning and Tourism on July 4.

On July 5, the discussion and voting on demands for Grants, 2012-13 for Transport, PWD, Agriculture, Administration of Justice, Fisheries, Horticulture and Social Conservation and Social Welfare.

On July 6, discussion and voting of grants will be conducted for Medical, Health and Family Welfare Services, Labour & Employment, Development of ST & Hills, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary including Dairy Farming, Panchayat and IFCD.

The day will also see introduction of Government Bills (s) if any and Private Members’ Business.

Further according to the source, July 9 will have discussion and voting on grants for Community Development and ANP, IRDP and NREP, Power, YAS, MI, MOBC, Economic and Statistics and IT. The day’s proceedings will also have consideration of passing of Government Bills, if any.

July 10 will have discussion and voting on grants for Police, Education, CAF&PD, Vigilance, Fire Protection and Control, Jails, Home Guards, Sericulture and Arts & Culture.

Discussion and voting on demands for Grants for Land Revenue Stamps & Registration and District Administration, Finance, State Academy of Training, State Excise, Sales Tax, other Taxes/Duties on Commodities and Services, Rehabilitation and Stationery & Printing on July 11.

July 12 will have Discussion and Voting for Grants, on Information and Publicity, Co-operation, environment and Forest, Commerce and Industries, PHE, Science and technology and Relief & Disaster Management, the source said.
