State to bring UPPK leader

IMPHAL, June 16: A state police team will be soon leaving for the national capital to take custody of general secretary, United Peoples’ Party of Kangleipak, Ningthoujam Shanti alias Chinglemba, who was arrested by a team of the Research and Analysis Wing, RAW from Nepal.

He was arrested by the nation’s external intelligence agency from Lajempak, Kathmandu city in Nepal on June 12.

According to a reliable source, the state team led by a senior IPS officer will leave the state as soon as the external intelligence agency brings back the militant leader to New Delhi.

The source added that the militant leader and three of his associates who were arrested along with him in Nepal will be brought to the state relating to several cases registered against them with several state police stations.

The militant cadres will however be transferred back to RAW custody after a brief stay under the state police custody, the source added.

The militants will later be handed over to the National Investigation Agency by RAW through a local police station, the source added.
