UPPK leaders remanded to custody

IMPHAL, June 23: The Imphal District Magistrate has today remanded the four top UPPK leaders arrested some days back from Patna, Bihar to 15 days of judicial custody.

The militant leaders are s/s general secretary Ningthoujam Shanti alias Chinglemba, 45, son of Surendrakumar of Sagolband Wahengbam Leikai, finance secretary Langpoklakpam Inaocha alias Birjeet, 40 of Kwakeithel Konjeng leikai, Battalion commanding officer s/s major Elangbam Bobo alias Khanganba, 35 of Hiyanglam and s/s captain L Jiten alias Selkai, 34 of Karimganj Assam.

According to the police, the four militant leaders were arrested from the Patna railway station, Bihar on June 17 by a team of Imphal police led by Imphal West SDPO, Modhunimai and brought back to Imphal on June 22 after taking transit remand for the four from the Railway Magistrate.

The police said on receiving reports about the presence of some Manipur based militants in Patna, Bihar, a team of the state police led by SDPO Modhunimai went to Patna and tied up with the Bihar police and arrested the four UPPK militants on June 17.

It may be mentioned that several local dailies had reported that the militant leaders have been arrested from Kathmandu, Nepal on June 14. The central committee of the militant group had also alleged on June 19 that a team of Indian Intelligence had arrested four cadres of the militant outfit including its general secretary who were driving on a Jote vehicle bearing regd no BA-6-JA-6233 on June 13 at around 9pm (Nepal time) from Kathmandu.
