3rd memorial lecture on Dr Thingnam Kishan

IMPHAL, July 1: The 3rd memorial lecture on Dr Kishan was held at Youth hostel, Khuman Lampak today.

Former director of AVRC Manipur University, Dr Arambam Lokendra chaired and moderated the memorial lecture. Associate Professor of History Department Manipur University, Dr H Sudhir gave the memorial lecture on the theme “Conflict Vulnerabilities and policy agenda in the Northeast”.

Two discussants who enhanced the discussion along with opening the discussion to the audience were PhD. Scholar of History Department Manipur University Arfina Haokip and Associate editor of Alternative Perspective Quaterly Journal Centre for Alternative Discourse Manipur, Dr K Sanatomba.

Family members of the slain SDO, students, scholars, teachers, lawyers, social activists and government officials who came to take part in the memorial lecture offered floral tributes to the memory of the former Kasom Khullen SDO (L) Dr Thingnam Kishan who was murdered by NSCN (IM) after being abducted along with two subordinates Rajen and Token, while on duty.

Trial on the murder case is presently going on and the prime accused of NSCN (IM) Hopson Ningsen was arrested and jailed in Tihar Jail. CBI who is investigating the murder case is trying to find the other accused involve in the murder case of the trio.

 

The memorial lecture is being organised by Dr Thingnam Kishan foundation.

Indrakumar, assistant lecturer of GP Women College who gave the keynote address said that the dreams of Dr Kishan should be kept alive and they are organising such events which would enable the academicians and social activist to discuss on issues faced by the people living in this region.

Dr Sudhir who gave the memorial lecture on vulnerability of women and child in the conflict ridden state of Manipur continue on the hardship and torture due to militarization in the State.

The scholars and elderly people who took part in the memorial lecture participated actively in today’s memorial lecture.

Dr Arambam Lokendra who moderated the function gave a historical note on the conflict situation of the State while continuing his speech on the current notion of Indian government wanting to solve militancy in the State by military means as first option and politically as second options.

Peace talk of NSCN with GOI was a compulsion as the militant group split into two, decades back.

Dr Arambam also gave his note on the role played by women in overcoming the atrocities besides the sufferings faced by the women of the State. He said that (L) Dr Kishan has always wanted to uplift the subjugated.

Dr Khaidem Mani taking part in the discussion stated that the State needs five committed leaders who would stand for truth and save the region. He said that such discussions should be organised frequently in understanding the State issues for a solution.

Books written by Dr Kishan and alternatives discourse where Dr Kishan was an active member were also displayed and made available in today’s memorial lecture.
