Laishram Bombayla Devi represented India at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the women’s individual as well as team Archery events. She also became the first woman to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games after a brilliant performance at the 2007 World Archery Championship at Leipzip in Germany.

“My mother is my motivation as she herself was an archer.”

Laishram Bombayla Devi started archery in her childhood, fascinated by the sport. In fact, sports was a family tradition. She was encouraged by her mother M. Jamini Devi,who was a state archery coach and her father, Manglem Singh a state handball coach.

“Qualifying for the Olympics mean a lot to me as it gives me another shot at an Olympic medal..n I will practice hard to fulfill my dream and expectations of my country by winning an Olympic medal. Pray for me!”

London will be the first Olympics for four out six archers, which means India will have a mix of experience and exuberance. The onus will be on Rai and Bombayla Devi, who have participated in the Olympics before.
