Manipur MBBS results stuck in legal quagmire

Manipur, IMPHAL, Aug 1: The state government represented by health and family welfare commissioner K Moses Chalai and health services director Surchandra Sharma and three selected candidates have filed separate appeals to the Principal Bench of Gauhati High Court challenging the quash order on revised select lists of July 22 and 23 of Manipur MBBS/BDS Entrance Examination, 2012 issued by the Single Bench of Justice Tayenjam Nandakumar of Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench on July 20.

The state government was earlier directed by the High Court to prepare a fresh revised list of selected candidates within seven days, but instead it has filed an appeal to the Division Bench of Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench challenging the quash order. The hearing scheduled on July 30 at the Division Bench was postponed as the requisite number of judges was not present.

According to sources from Guwahati, the appeallants namely K Moses Chalai and Surchandra Sharma on behalf of the state government filed the appeal yesterday at Guwahati.

The appeal has been admitted by the Gauhati High court, but another party consisting of three selected candidates namely W Sinthoileima Chanu, Moirangthem Dedoni and Akoijam Booja also filed another appeal to the Principal Bench challenging the quash order. Advocate Gunadhor is on behalf of the three selected candidates.

The cross-examination as well as hearing of this case was done at the Principal Bench for about one and half hour today. The case is likely to come to a conclusion tomorrow.

It may be mentioned the selected list of Manipur MBBS/BDS Entrance Examination, 2012 was first announced on July 11 and subsequently revised twice on July 22 and 23 due to some error in the questions of Physics paper.
