Drug free election campaign

IMPHAL, September 7: As part of its ongoing campaign against drug abuse in the state, the AMADA has been organizing several awareness programs and campaigning to make the 64th Panchayat Election to be a drug free election.

AMADA in association with Yengkhom Leirak Development Club (YLDC) today organized an awareness program at Yengkhom Leirak Community Hall, YLDC Tera Yengkhom Leirak.

The program was attended by AMADA Mayai Loisang president M Pasamini Leima, YLDC working president Hijam Ibochouba and YLDC women wing advisor, AK Loidang Leima as presidium members.

The function was also attended by Law & Prosecution director, Ng Tejkumar, Human Right Law Network, director Meihoubam Rakesh, staff nurse JNIMS H Sorojini Leima, Kanglei Ching Tam Leima Lup NH 53 president Th Shilleima and CoNE executive member, S Irananda as resource person for the function.

All the speakers highlighted that drug abuse especially during the election periods have increased in the state, and that youths are more prone to alcohol and drugs during elections periods in the state.

They also lauded AMADA for taking an initiative in the fight against drug abuse.

Several of the speakers also expressed that intoxicants and drugs are also supplied freely by the election candidates.

They also expressed that most of the crimes are related to drug abuse.
