Justice sought for Lamphel eviction victims

IMPHAL, September 26 : The demand for justice and a proper rehabilitation and resettlement for the Lamphel Yaipha Leikai eviction victims continue unabated.

Earlier on September 6, the committee formed to ensure proper treatment for the eviction victims had written and submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India, seeking their same old appropriate rehabilitation and resettlement.

The committee and the group supporting these eviction victims had also written and seeking help from the United Nations from their Geneva office.

The special rapporteur, United Nation had also replied and wrote a letter to his excellency seeking the truth to the charges alleged and seek adequate compensation and rehabilitation for the eviction victims.

Mention may be made, about 70 people were forcibly evicted and a total of 15 houses in Yaipha Leikai village in Imphal west district of Manipur were destroyed earlier on June 6, 2011 and to this day, neither rehabilitation nor proper resettlement were made avail to these victims.
