Mother-daughter killed in accident

IMPHAL, September 14: A head on collision between a Tata truck and a Maruti Gypsy killed the Gypsy driver and two of its passengers at around 11:30am at Maibam Lokpa CHing mang under Nambol police. Seven other passengers of the Gypsy have also been seriously injured and admitted at the Shija Hospitals.

The other two passengers have been identified as mother and daughter.

The tata truck bearing regd no MN 01 7755 was coming towards Churachandpur while the Gypsy bearing regd no MN 05 A 0914 was coming towards Imphal.

Police said the Gypsy was carrying 13 passengers including six children.

Following the head on collision, the Gypsy turned turtle and fell down the road side canal killing the driver and the mother on the spot. The daughter succumbed to her injuries this evening around 2pm at the Shija Hospital.

The driver has been identified as Md Afjal, 18, son of Hussain of Heibong Makhong Kalikhong, Mayang Imphal.

The mother has been identified as Shamina Bibi, 55 wife of Nur Mohammad of Kwakta whle her daughter has been identified as Ruksana, 15 at present staying at Hatta Golapati.

Meanwhile, family members said the Gypsy was returning from Kwakta after participating yesterday’s panchayat election.

Police have in the meanwhile taken up a formal case regarding the accident. All three bodies have been deposited at the RIMS mortuary for post mortem.
