Irom Chanu Sharmila asked to appear in Patiala court

IMPHAL, October 10 : Irom Chanu Sharmila, who is currently kept in police custody by the Imphal East District Police under Porompat Police station has been directed to appear in person at the Patiala house court at Delhi on October 17 at 10 am. However, there is still no authorization or permission to move around from the investigating officer, IO and the related  judicial magistrate 1st class court, Imphal east.

IFP sources confirmed, there is an order against Irom Chanu Sharmila to appear before the Metropolitan magistrate court at Patiala House court, main building, room no 4 on October 17 at 10 am.

Speaking on this matter, the superintendent of Manipur Central Jail stated that on August 25 earlier this year, the Additional director general of police (Prison) of Manipur has been notified regarding the appearance besides a copy of this directive has been been forwarded to the ADGP (Prison) by the SP, Manipur Central Jail through the court at JMIC/IE.

However, the investigation officer, IO of the Irom Chanu Sharmila case stated there is neither no production warrant nor any form of official prayer as yet to produce or bring her at the Patiala house court in relation to her case against her. She can only be produced after seeking a permission or a prayer to produce in the Patiala court through JMIC/IE, the IO further stated and added it will also depend on the physical feasibility of the physical condition of Irom Chanu Sharmila.

In another development, the medical superintendent of JNIMS hospital has already issued a medical report on Irom Chanu Sharmila as per the prayer made by the Manipur Central Jail authority.

Mention may be made, Irom Chanu Sharmila was produced before the court yesterday on October 9 at JMIC/IE and further directed to re-appear before the court on October 20.

Irom Chanu Sharmila is now under judicial custody on charges of attempted committing suicide under case FIR no. 95 (3) 2012 PRT PS under section 309 IPC and a case registered at Porompat police station, Imphal east district.
