Youths made to sign up as UG cadre at AR camp exposes murky deals

IMPHAL, January 8: Heirok Eastern Sporting Union (HESU) has condemned the act of cheating on youngsters by taking them to Chandel and telling them to attend the Army Recruitment Rally there.

In a press briefing at Manipur Press Club today, Ningthoujam Kameshor, general secretary of HESU said people should stay alert from the processes of various government and non government representatives under the provisions of AFSPA 1958.

“The surrender policy can be being falsely interpreted by some government machinery,” he cautioned.

He also informed that Thokchom Rameshwor Singh, 40 son of (L) Tombimacha Singh of Heirok Part-II Maning Leikai and Sagolsem (O) Purnima Devi, 38 wife of S Gambir Singh of Andro Kharam Dam Mathak who cheated the youngsters were called at the HESU club premises and handed over to Thoubal PS.

Speaking to the media, Moirangthem Thoiba Singh, 20 son of M Shanta Singh said he along with five others namely Elangbam Muhindro, 20 son of Leirang, Nongthombam Johny son of N Kumar, Moirangthem Oken and Moirangthem Premkanta son of M Kunjamohol, and Ningthoujam Herojit son of (L) N Jiten were asked to join AR by Th Rameshwor by saying that there were 6 vacant posts.

“On January 4, 2013 Rameshwor and Purnima took us by a passenger auto rickshaw to the AR post at Pallel Bazaar and on reaching there we were informed that there was no vacant posts there. Then we were taken by a passenger DI vehicle from Pallel to 42 AR post at Chandel,” Thoiba added.

He then said, on reaching the camp they found Purnima`s husband S Gambir Singh present at the camp and dressed in AR uniform.

On seeing him they thought he was an AR personnel. He took them to a Major (non Manipuri) and took down their particulars, he continued.

“We were taken to an uphill camp where there were 50/60 youths in civil dress. When asked why we were being brought there, Gambhir replied that you will know later.”

Then a Meitei man to whom Gambhir called `sir` took down their particulars again. They were asked to sign on a form which was inscribed with `MDF` at the top and `MDF (KYKL)` at the bottom. When inquired, the man replied “not to worry, you will be recruited in the name of the party, you just say that you are a surrenderer when police asked”, he claimed.

He also said that there was a surrender program at Mantripukhri on January 15, 2013 in which you are going to participate.

Johny, Oken and Premkanta were released first on January 5, 2013 at around 3 pm and he and Herojit were released one hour later, Thoiba said.
