Arrested KYKL-MDF surrenderees remanded to police custody, nine AR personnel released

IMPHAL, February 24: The two top leaders of KYKL-MDF who were arrested on the charge of the attempt to barge into the office chamber of Director Prof. Sekharjit at the Administrative Block of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) were produced before the duty Magistrate today and remanded in police custody for seven days.

According  to information received by IFP, the two KYKL-MDF surrenderees produced before duty Magistrate Mutum Ojesh, Judicial Magistrate 1st class, Imphal are General Secretary Laimayum Ronel, alias Achouba and Lt Khumukcham Nongpoknganba.

They were produced before the Duty Magistrate by Lamphel police in connection with a case registered against them for  their attempt along with nine AR personnel in uniform and armed with guns to enter the room of the Director of RIMS by force. However AR personnel were only detained and let off yesterday for due action  by their authority.      

Talking to IFP, police sources have revealed that  there were two earlier attempts by the said underground group to forcibly meet the RIMS Director. The first attempt on the 19th of this month was made with a Major of AR. The second attempt was made on the 21st of this month. No official confirmation could be made regarding the case.

IFP`s attempts for an official statement from RIMS was met with the explanation that there have been no demands or communication with the said UG-AR combine and that the response of the security team was normal procedure since the team came at non visiting hours.

Sources from AR have categorically denied that any of its personnel have been involved in extortion. Further, it said that any official statement regarding the matter will not be issued till the time, the police comes up with its official statement regarding the incident.

When asked to comment on whether the movement of surrendered UGs with arms and outside of their camp areas violate the terms of the MoU, the source pointed out that the said MoU was signed only between the Government of India, the Government of Mnaipur and the UGs.

The Home Minister could not be reached for any comments since he had set out for New Delhi along with the Chief Minister.
