CPI civic rights protest in Khurai

IMPHAL, February 4: Communist Party of India, Khurai Local Council today took out a protest rally against the erratic power supply in the locality. The protestors also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Engineer (Electricity) through the Executive Engineer, Khuman Lampak Maintenance division, electricity department.

The protest rally started from Khurai Sajor Leikai, Ima Laikhurembi compound under a banner demanding proper power supply, portable drinking water, upgradation of Khurai Lamlong Bazar to a Supermarket and provision of 35 kg rice at Rs 2/kg for every family.

The protestors also shouted slogans making their demands and stormed the Electricity maintenance Division office at Khuman Lampak.

The security personnel posted at the office however managed to close the gates, keeping the protestors out of bounds.

Later on, representatives were allowed to enter the office compound and submit their memorandum.

Meanwhile, speaking to media persons after submitting the memorandum to the EE, CPI Manipur State Council, Executive member RK AMusana said that the EE has said that that it has become hard for the Lamlong Feeder to feed the whole Khurai area and as such assured that by a week’s time, the authority concerned will try to provide for the insufficient power supply by taking some load from the Kongba Sub Station.

He continued that a similar protest will be organized in the next three four days regarding the demands for safe drinking water.

The demands including the upgradation of the Lamlong Bazar to a Super market will also be taken to the state Chief Minister, he said.
