Residential School for poor students opened

IMPHAL, March 22: The Imphal East District Residential School was inaugurated at the premises of the school at Khurai Sajor Leikai, Tinsid Road today in a simple function organized by the Office of the District Project Officer Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, Imphal East District. 

Delivering the keynote address Dr Ng Bijoy Singh, MLA Khurai A/C said the residential school is being set up to increase the educational level of the poor and orphan children of the area. 

The students will be trained about capacity building to shape them into successful persons. The government might add students up to XII standard sooner. The said residential school is set up in order to convert the poor in to rich through education, he added.

Speaking as chief guest at the occasion, M Okendro Singh, Minister of Education said the setting up of the residential school is a step to educate those who want to study but could not afford it. Saying that it was a temporary set up and that  permanent ones will come from April next year, he said that the required amount to set up such schools at other districts have been earmarked. “To bring a change in education support and cooperation is required from the people and they should also take the responsibility instead of only giving the charge to the government,” he added.

He then said the construction of 10 such schools in other districts and 9 such schools exclusively for girls under the name `Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya` are underway. Two other residential schools have already been set up at Moirang and Khumbong. The inaugural function was also attended by  Dr J Suresh Babu, Principal Secretary Education, Government of Manipur; H Dilip Singh, Director of Education (S), Government of Manipur; and RK Dinesh Singh, DC/Chairman District Board of Education SSA Imphal East District amongst others.
