Mary Kom boxing school Sadar Hills, officially inuagurated

IMPHAL, May 11: The Mary Kom School of Boxing (MKSB) at Chaljang village, Sadar Hills was officially inaugurated today with Chairman SHADC, Haokholal Hangshing as the Chief guest.

Speaking at the function, President of MKSB, Chunglenmang (MCS) said: “The vision of the school is to let amateur boxers compete in state level, national level and also at the international level to put Manipur’s name in the global boxing arena. Its other objective is to encourage youths to abstain from drug abuse, alcohol and other vice practices. ”

He further said that the infrastructure, maintenance, training and fund generation of the boxing school will be solely run by the MSKB and its donors and supporters.

At the function, a memorandum of understanding was signed with Mary Kom Regional Boxing Foundation (MKRBF) while an application to affiliate MKSB with Manipur Amateur Boxing Association (MABA) was also given to the Secretary of MABA, Khobi Salam who was present at the inauguration program.

Hangshing also thanked Mary Kom for bringing the youth of today to boxing through her hard labour. He said that the boxing school is the first of its kind in the area and encourgaed the youths to take up the opportunity.

The idea of MSKB, Sadar Hills is to provide boxing training to children between the age of eight to eighteen years under the guidance and supervision of a certified coach. The thought of MSKB was conceived by Onler kom during an informal chat with some friends who later on became the founding pillar of MKBS.

The boxing school has now 75 boxing trainees with the youngest trainee at age 8 and the eldest trainee at 16 years.

The function was also attended by Director of MKRBF, Onler Kom and CEO of SHADC, Chongpu Kipgen.
