IMPHAL, July 18: A gunfight reportedly took place between two opposing groups in Leising Minou area under Kakching police station in Thoubal district this evening at around 8.
Three persons including one minor were injured in the shootout and are undergoing treatment at Jeeven Hospital, Kakching. The condition of the minor is said to be serious.
The area is reportedly in a tense situation and district police and commandos have rushed to the area to prevent any further untoward incident.
According to reliable sources, the reported gunfight which lasted for around 15 minutes was between two opposing armed groups at the inter village road between Sora to Khonou Tabi Ching in L Minou in Thoubal district.
Three different versions of the said incident were reported from the two opposing groups.
The first version claimed that the incident happened when villagers of Sora village went to L Minou village in an aim to compromise on the issue of killing of an MLA’s cousin brother incident.
Meanwhile, the other side of the opposing group claimed that the villagers of Sora came to Leishing Minou village holding different kinds of weapons in a large number in three or four vehicles. A confrontation took place between the two opposing groups and following which someone started firing and thus the exchange of firing incident.
Further, another version claimed that the incident happened when the villagers of Sora Chingja Mamang went to Leising Minou chasing after some unknown persons who abducted one Sora villager. The said group who in three or four vehicles reached Leising Minou the gunfight took place.
However, it could not be confirmed which side started firing first.
Later, a team of Kakcking police led by Kakching SDPO Ghyanashyam rushed to Leishing Minou along with a huge team of Thoubal police commandos to bring the situation under control. However, the Police were also attacked by the people present at the area by pelting stones.
