IMPHAL, November 7: A migrant labour died on the spot and six others were injured in a twin blast at the building they were engaged for construction in Pallel Maning Leikai, some 300 meters away from the Pallel Police Outpost at Chandel District, at around 10:30 last night. All the six injured are undergoing treatment at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital but have been reported to be out of danger.
According to the local residents who accompanied them to the hospital, the simultaneous explosions took place when all the labours were sleeping inside the under-construction building belonging to Moirangthem Manou Singh, son of M Nimai. The lethal blast occurred inside a room while the second exploded outside the building just a fraction of second later, sources stated.
The deceased has been identified as Lalitkumar from Ambala district in Punjab. Reports said he died on the spot. The six injured, who all belonged to Silchar in Assam, were initially rushed to Thoubal District Hospital but were referred to RIMS Hospital.
They have been identified as Santosh Ravidas, 19, son of Babul Ravidas who received injuries on both legs and hands; Maholal, 28, son of Ramlal who received injuries on his chest; Geetan Ravidas, 32, and his younger brother Nirmal Ravidas, son of Babul Ravidas, both of them received minor injuries on their limbs; Anup Ravidas, 18, son of Lapdua Ravidas who received minor injury on his legs and Dayal, 20, son of Datu Das who received minor injuries on his hands.
Director General of Police (DGP) MK Das met the injured persons at the RIMS Hospital this morning. Later in the evening, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam also visited the injured at the hospital and interacted with the media persons present there.
He condemned the incident as a terrorist act and assured all possible help for the victims from the side of the government. To tackle the bomb attacks carried out by unidentified groups, the people and government needs to work together and appealed to one and all to voice their objection to such attack, he stated.
