IMPHAL, Jan 25: The state Governor has greeted the people of Manipur on the occasion of the Republic Day, 2014, conveying his best wishes to every citizen.

It was on this day in 1950, that we gave ourselves a Constitution which is the guiding principle of our country, he said.

Despite reservations from various quarters, the experiment of democracy in India has been successful and we are growing from strength to strength, respected by other nations, the Governor’s greeting said.

Successive elections have shown the maturity of our electorate and the aspirations of the people are reflected in the ballot. From a fledgling democracy, we have now become a mature one. On this occasion, we should revere and offer our homage to the founding fathers of modern India for their foresight and understanding.

India is poised to become one of the leading nations of the world. Its progress in science and technology backed by a young and dynamic population is destined to usher the country to greater heights. We have however, to harness the potential of our youth in the right direction so that they become our main assets for future. Let us all strive to work together to make our country strong, peaceful and prosperous, it said.

People everywhere aspire for a good life, free from wants, and the people of Manipur are no exception. The administration is sensitive to these aspirations. With major projects like rail-line, broader and better highways, and IT, Tourism and Health sector initiatives etc either under implementation or in the pipeline, the path to economic growth and development will accelerate thereby bringing in a better quality of life to the citizens of the state, besides, of course providing ample employment opportunities.

On this auspicious occasion, let us re-dedicate ourselves to uphold and promote the secular, socialist and democratic values enshrined in our Constitution and work collectively to make our country achieve even greater progress, it said.
