IMPHAL January 7: The Joint Action Committee formed in connection with the alleged killing of Mema Devi has demanded the arrest of the remaining accused on or before January 10.

It may be mentioned that Sangomsangbam Sahida alias Mema of Kiyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai was stabbed to death by a sharp weapon inside a grocery shop at her residential gate around 6.30 pm of January 1 by the son of her brother in law.

The JAC has also announced that neither the family nor the JAC have received any financial help from the government or anyone.

Setting the January 10 deadline for the government, the JAC had also announced to launch several forms of agitations incase the government fails to make the arrest.

The team had on January 3 met the CM for the first time regarding the alleged killing, he said.

During today’s meeting, it was stated that the arrested accused has confessed that he had committed the crime alone, he said.

However, the JAC has a strong feeling that the crime was committed not by just one person, but another person was involved, he observed.

He said that a police officer of the Imphal East police had on the day the accused was arrested said that the accused had revealed the involvement of another person in the crime.

The police officer had also assured to arrest the remaining accused at the earliest, however, there has been no other arrest, he said.

He continued that after the alleged killing, locals had called an emergency meeting the next day and formed the JAC.

Several resolutions were also passed that day, he said.

Lamenting the dismantling of the house of the accused Noor Khan, 20 son of Ajiz, he observed that the house was destroyed while the meeting was going on.

Meanwhile, the police had taken 12 days custody of the accused till January 15 after he was produced before the CJM Imphal east Court on January 3.
