Toubul meet decries Crimes Against Women

BISHNUPUR, Feb 28: One day public meeting on International Humanitarian Law and Armed Conflicts in the context of Manipur jointly organised North East Dialogue Forum (NEDF) and Toubul Youths Development Association was held on Friday at Ibudhou Yaingoiningthou Community Hall, Toubul.

Dr Dhanbir Laishram, guest faculty of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU); Dr Y Mani Khuman, president of AMUCO; Sobita Mangsatabam, secretary of Woman Action for Development; Basanta Warepa, advocate and program officer of Human Rights Alert; Th Nando, association professor of department of Physics, CI College Bishnupur and U Nobokishore, convenor of NEDF attended the function as presidium member and resource person respectively.

During the function, Sobita Mangsatabam mentioned that serious social issues are entrusted to womenfolk.

She continued that women participants are attending the meeting only after completing their household chores.

She said that police have failed to book rape and murder accused while they are able to nab a KCP cadre whose statement hurt the ego of the state DGP.

He further added that the Indian government has no other interest other than in the mineral and natural resources of the state while they are disinterested in the people of of Manipur.

She also said that AFSPA was enforced in the entire north east India to subdue NNC in the late 1950 and instead of subduing NNC, there are 60 insurgent groups in the state now.
