Cabinet sanctions age relaxation by 8 years

IMPHAL, March 3: In a historic cabinet decision today, the state government of Manipur has relaxed the upper age limit for employment seekers up-to eight years for all categories.

Briefing the media in this regard this evening at the new secretariat block, minister Moirangthem Okendra who is also the government spokesperson in his office chamber said that a cabinet meeting was convened at the Chief Minister’s secretariat. The cabinet in a landmark decision has okayed age relaxation by eight years.

The cabinet had also deliberated on several other issues, he said .

Okendro said that there are many educated unemployed youth in the state at present. They are apprehensive that due to the government ban on recruitment,  their age could be barred from certain competitive examinations.

The present upper age limit for such exams is 30 years for general category, 33 for Other Backward Classes, 35 for Scheduled Tribe/ Scheduled Caste.

Now, the cabinet has approved relaxation of all categories by 8 years, he said.

According to the cabinet decision, the age relaxation has been differed till 38 years for general category, 41 years for OBC, and 43 years for SC/ST category.

This cabinet decision is to pertain for all organized service and posts of the State inclusive of the Manipur Public Service Commission, he said.

Okendro further mentioned that another decision was taken by the government to provide vocational training in 39 schools.  

The ministry of Human Resource Development has also approved the sanctioning of the vocational training centres. The courses will start from this year 2014-2015 onwards, he said.

And for further implementation of this scheme,  9 vocational co-ordinators, 78 vocational teachers and 56 laboratory assistants will be recruited, he said.
