MPP will support BJP to `save` Manipur; fromer Cong candidate joins bandwagon

IMPHAL, March 22: The oldest regional political party of the state, Manipur Peoples’ Party (MPP) will support Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 16th Lok Sabha Election 2014, said N Sovakiran, president of the party today.

On the other hand, the Mayang Imphal A/C former candidate from Trinamool Congress ticket Kongkham Manglem and his son Robindro have also joined BJP from today.

A press conference was convened at the premise of the MPP office today along with state BJP leader Th Chaoba; Northeast in-charge BJP PV Acharya and party candidate for the inner parliamentary constituency, Dr RK Ranjan along with other senior members.

The MPP president said that the party has decided not to field any party candidate in the upcoming parliamentary election; instead the party will support BJP candidates both in the inner and outer constituencies.

‘This is to defeat the Congress and to save Manipur,’ he said.

He further asserted that the decision is to thwart the divisive policies of the Congress.

There is only one way to defeat the Congress party which is to support the real enemy of the Congress party, he said before asserting that nevertheless, the MPP stands for territorial integrity of the state.

Many people have been killed during the Congress regime under AFSPA, he lamented.

Moreover NSCN (IM) designated camp has been mushrooming in the state, he maintained.

The national secretary BJP Northeast in-charge PV Acharya said that the country is in a crucial stage.

It is the right time that a regional party like MPP has decided to support BJP and uphold the nationalist idea.

He said MPP’s idea of state integrity is more or less same with BJP’s idea of National Integrity.

Th Chaoba, president BJP Manipur Pradesh said he is still waiting a clarification from the Chief Minister whether he have given consent on the controversial fencing at Moreh, Indo-Myanmar border.

He said BJP is happy on the increasing number of candidates contesting the Lok Sabha seats because opposition voters were much higher than Congress voters in the last election.
