IMPHAL, March 30:The Election Commission of India must look after the statements made by Neiphiu Rio at NPF public meetings in Tamenglong and Senapati which violated the rule number one of the election general code of conduct.
This was stated by N Biren, the legislator from Heingang assembly constituency.
In a simple unit committee meeting of Heingang Block Congress committee at his residence on Sunday, he said that the speeches of NPF star campaigner from Nagaland Neiphiu Rio in public meetings at Tamenglong and Senapati recently were a threat to the state’s integrity. His speeches are in violation of the general code of conduct of ECI.
Stating that he has sent a written note to ECI asking who will take responsibility if any untoward incidents happen in the state after Rio’s statements.
Questioning the rationale of the Election Commission of India recommending such a political party to allow in contesting elections in Manipur which has openly mentioned that they will take their neighbour’s land for unity of Naga people. The suggestion of taking over your neighbouring land is a provocative statement.
He said that Neiphiu Rio has made a statement in Tamenglong that “Ibobi along with Ministry of Home Affairs (NE), Joint Secretary Shambu Singh tried to prevent Rio from visiting Manipur”. His other statements made in a public meeting at Senapati included statements such as ‘Ibobi is the number one enemy of Naga’, ‘Chief Minister Ibobi swim between Kuki and Naga communities’. Such provoking words may lead to communal riots among various communities in the state.
Urging the people gathered in the function that we are threatened by our neighbour by driving wedges among the communities of the state, he said that a Chief Minister resigning and contesting elections to create a path for himself in Parliament as a Member of Parliament is not an easy policy of Rio.
He often enters Manipur and makes accusations to his Manipuri counterpart and spread propaganda for making Naga Unity and threatens the Manipur territorial integrity under NPF political party. He openly fights for destruction of Manipur’s unity.
Biren alleged that strategy of Rio is to become a union minister after forming an alliance with BJP in the centre and have access to other union Ministers. After that he will struggle for the unity of all Naga-inhabited areas in NE for forming a separate Naga state.
He urged the people to forget everything that happened in the past and look forward to a bright future. If there is no Congress government in the centre, our enemy will succeed which is openly challenged to our state.
